Thank you to all who contributed to the Allen Team Food Drive to fill 500 Bags

December 5, 2019

The Allen Team is humbled and honoured to have been Holiday Helpers for the CTV Morning Live Holiday Helpers Food Drive on Thursday, December 5, 2019.

A lot of time, energy and volunteer commitment from our friends, clients, neighbours, colleagues and community went into making our Food Drive efforts a success and we are so grateful for your contribution towards our team effort.

With only 2.5 weeks to collect food, we set ourselves a lofty goal of filling 500 bags, and thanks to the generosity of EVERYONE involved, from all the food collected, we filled over 300 bags, and with our client and community cheque donations totalling $1200 to the Ottawa Food Bank (with each dollar being turned into five, equating to $5000 in food) we have surpassed that goal!!

There are so many people to thank for their contributions. We are so grateful for everyone who stepped up for a good cause and supported our team effort to give back to the Ottawa Food Bank!

Firstly, thank you to our colleague, Nella Zourntos of Re/Max for partnering with us to boost our efforts – we could not have hit our 500 bag goal without her support. Thank you to our Re/Max Absolute Brokerage for use of the company truck to transport all the bags of food. Thank you to Stittsville Sobeys for donating all the paper bags we used.

Filling those bags is all thanks to our community and network – our first attempt at a neighbourhood food drive in Echowoods, Stittsville yielded a large contribution and our Timbermere friends and neighbours generously filled bags too!

We picked up bags from clients across Ottawa – so many of you have given back so much!! We would like to special mention Catherine Hutton for setting up a collection at the Scotiabank on Carling, Christine Kumchy for her Swanson Associates workplace food drive, Viola Hoo for involving the Pathfinders 7th 202 Europe Trip Group from Nepean. Our Office Administrator enlisted her son’s Stittsville Rams Peewee C1 Jaguars team to contribute, and Paul Allen initiated a food drive at KRP Properties.

Nella Zourntos collected over 40 bags and $1100 in donations from her connections and we’d like to thank her friends and clients as well: Greco Kanata South collected from staff and members, and Poco Pazzo restaurants collected from customers and staff, even offering a $5 gift card to those who donated food. A special thank you to Nella’s contact, Chrislyn Licari of Docbraces – Chrislyn’s dental office does an ongoing food bank collection and contributed 32 bags and a corporate donation of a $1000 cheque from contributions collected from their clients was presented live on CTV this morning! Amazing work all!

We’d like to recognize Christine and Paulo Silveira of Manotick for their individual bulk food donation that filled almost 20 bags!

Stittsville Giant Tiger was instrumental in helping The Allen Team turn cash donations into 50 filled bags of food by kindly letting us bulk purchase groceries and generously donating four large boxes of chocolates for the Ottawa Food Bank – their support is greatly appreciated.

A shout out to our Stittsville Neighbours who volunteered to help us load all the bags into the truck – we value your time and energy towards this worthwhile cause.

Last, but not least, thank you to Trisha Owens and the CTV Morning Live Show for giving us the opportunity to give back by supporting the Ottawa Food Bank through the Holiday Helper’s food drive.

There are so many individuals who contributed towards our team effort, and together, we were able to provide a lot of food towards ensuring more families will have food this holiday season through the Ottawa Food Bank. We appreciate you all so much. THANK YOU!
